Two months have passed since I wrote last my last piece for GameSpot. On the day that I was let go, I consoled myself and others by saying that my departure was for the best, that my plunge into my next endeavor would be better in the long term for my career success and happiness. Two months have…
One thing I always admired and envied about Tom when we worked together was his ability to, as he puts it here, “show up without any clue of what he was going to work on, and then conjure an idea from scratch once he walked in the door.” (My problem was and is that I often feel like I don’t even know what the idea behind a thing is until I actually write it. So I would say, “I want to write something about X.” And someone would say, “Okay, what’s the concept?” to try to see if the idea had merit, and I would want to say, “Umm, I can’t really know what the idea is until I write the darn thing.”)
I’m glad Tom has a place again to do the kind of thinking and writing that made him such a unique, challenging and valuable voice at GameSpot.
