A friend who only gets to see the person he loves for a few days here and there says I don’t want to come home to an empty apartment. I don’t want to watch that movie alone. Even if we’re not doing anything, I just want her there.

You want her presence, I say. 

And when we are together, he says, we know our time is short, so there’s a sense of urgency to everything.

It’s hard to just be together, I say, to just exist.

I think that’s what In Your Eyes is about. It’s about being in the presence of love, truly seeing and truly being seen, being recognized as existing.
