Cro-Mag in 2014
This is a page from Sarah Schulman’s 1992 novel Empathy, a moment at which the therapist Doc thinks he might be able to reach the patient he thinks of as Cro-Mag. Cro-Mag is privileged in every way but feels assaulted by life and circumstance at every turn.

But Doc can’t get through to Cro-Mag, can’t help him understand what’s wrong with the way he sees himself and his relationship to others in the world around him. So we still have to come into contact with him and deal with his bullshit. But even if individuals can’t always be changed, systems can be challenged.
Cro-Mag still exists. The Internet is swarming with him.
