“There is stupid peace and there is smart peace.”
-Timothy Keller (Pastor)
I guess the 21st century is because no body is watching, not because everyone is. Where are we seen? Nowhere. Who sees us? No one. Hence blogs, hence Facebook, hence Twitter. But it’s real people and real places we must return to. Run towards. Learn to stay with. It’s actual presence that we’ve forgotten to give and receive.—-
Speaking of Twitter, right after I read this on Masha’s blog, I saw this tweet:
I’ll talk to the world because I cannot talk to you.
— Purloined Letter (@purloinedletter)
and I thought about how much better and more meaningful it is to say the things some of us say on Twitter or Facebook or blogs to one person we really want to be with (and by be, I simply mean exist, but really, truly exist) than it is to say them to the entire world. But we’re forgetting how to do that. Or, in some cases, in the 21st century, never really learning.
