From the deep silence of my mind
There’s something I’m trying to find
When it speaks you know you will hear my name

Won’t you come down to my arms
There’s something I’m ready to say
Would you call my name

I need your name

This song came on in a restaurant the other night as I was talking with friends about loneliness and waiting and missing people. This song about waiting, about not being ready and then being ready and about words as action–”there’s something I’m ready to say”–and about names, about an individual, the name that refers specifically to him or her, not to anyone else. “I need your name.”

Sometimes when I am in love with a person I still think my heart beats their name.
