The way Mr Badii, the protagonist of Kiarostami’s Taste of Cherry, wants to commit suicide yet keeps making a case for the value and beauty of living. Of being on Earth. Of treating others well. It’s the ethics of living that make him want to resort to death. Badii asks everyone a lot of questions—a major sign of life.
Been asking questions like this a lot lately myself. How to ethically handle unhappiness in a way that is best for oneself and for those one cares about.
