-Film Socialisme, Godard

Because of events lately in my own life and in the lives of people I know, I’ve been thinking lately about this post of mine from a year ago, Time is Luck, about the film Miami Vice and how Michael Mann emphasizes the feeling that the moment is always always always slipping away. The image Masha posted today (above, from Godard’s Film Socialisme) reminded me of this scene in particular…

…about which I said,

“How the blue of the sky and the blue of the water meet in the distance so you can’t tell one from the other, up from down. Heading into the unknown. Taking a chance.“Time is luck,” says Isabella (Gong Li), and Miami Vice is largely about how time is always running out. It’s a deliberately disorienting film in which the moment keeps slipping away. Neither the characters nor the viewer can fully inhabit a moment before it’s gone.”

One of these mornings, it won’t be very long…
